Unless I’m missing an option somewhere, it appears that we can only receive a maximum of 30 matches from the online search. Your database is so extensive, it would be really nice to be able to receive more matches to review. Is that a capability you could add?

Thank you!

Hi,

Thanks for reaching out.

There is an option in the preferences dialog to adjust the number of results returned but that refers to the total results and not the online ones.

As you mentioned, the maximum number of online search matches returned is 30. This limit is enforced in order to keep the communication with the server at a reasonable level and allow for reasonable response times.
The thought behind it is that your match (or similar matches) should be returned within the first 30 results. If it's not, then you probably need to do one or more of the following:
  • Select more letters
  • Select different letters
  • Select letters that have more unique shape
You may also consult the Find my Font documentation (Help) for more information. Look for the chapter called: How to select the proper letters

I agree that Find my Font does an amazing job when the right characters can be supplied, but often a sample is limited in the number and resolution of the characters available, and the results can be quite mixed. I usually start with Find my Font, and I’m successful perhaps 50-60% of the time. If I’m not, I move on to other tools. Sometimes those tools work in the first few results, but sometimes they may have the right result in the latter half of 100 results. It’s definitely hit or miss depending on the nature of the available sample. I do understand the desire to balance performance against thoroughness. What if you had a “get 30 more” option that could be used only if the first 30 aren’t successful? That would keep the traffic low by default but allow a deeper dive if needed.

The “get 30 more” option sounds reasonable.
I'll discuss it with our developers and let you know if it can be added to our roadmap.

Thanks for your suggestion.
